Phencyclidine, better known as PCP was originally used as a surgical anesthetic in the 1950s. It was discontinued in the 1960s due to the agitated, irrational, delusional state patients exhibited when recovering from the anesthetic. Today PCP is sold and abused on the street due to the trance-like and detached, out-of-body state it gives its user.
There are many street names for PCP including: Angel dust, magic dust, rocket fuel, wack, Peace pill, lovely, embalming fluid, trank, Peter Pan, ozone, killer weed and supergrass.

What does it look like and how is it taken?
Phencyclidine or PCP, comes in a variety of forms and can be ingested, injected, snorted or smoked. Although PCP in its pure form is a white, crystalline powder, it can be found in a variety of colored tablets, pills and colored powders. It is most often, however, sold as either powder or liquid. PCP is often applied to leafy substances such as tobacco, marijuana, or even spices such as mint and oregano when smoked.
Illegal or Legal?
Phencyclidine or PCP is always illegal.
Why is Phencyclidine PCP taken?
PCP is used because of its mind-altering and hallucinogenic effects. It creates a feeling of detachment and an almost “out of body” sensation. PCP is addictive and can easily lead to dependence.
Dangers and Side Effects
Side effects of PCP include: poor, garbled speech, flicking of the eyes, blurred vision, sweating, drooling, shallow and quick breathing, loss of balance, numbness, dizziness, nausea and vomiting. PCP effects mood and behavior, and in high doses can cause symptoms of schizophrenia including: paranoia, delusions, detachment from one’s environment and sometimes a catatonic state or amnesia. PCP can cause dangerous, erratic, violent and suicidal behavior.
Because PCP causes hallucinations, it is a very dangerous drug. Use of the drug can lead to seizures and coma. Deaths from PCP are often from the incontrollable mental and physical instabilities of the drug rather than the drug itself, and deaths are often suicides or due to accidental injury.

Long term use of PCP causes memory loss, weight loss, depression and interferes permanently with speech and thinking.
